Feb. 5th - Panama Missions Meeting - This is a mandatory meeting if you are interested in going on our mission to the country of Panama. We will discuss details and you will be able to apply for the trip. This will be at 11:30 am following worship in the Teen Room.

Feb. 8th - Parent Leadership Council Meeting - 7:35 in Room 22 if you are interested in "dreaming & planning" for the future of GSM

Feb. 10th - Movie Night in the Teen Room - 6:30-10pm. Eat before you come and bring your own Candy. Soda & Popcorn will be provided

Feb. 18th - Homeless Outreach - 10:30am-1 pm

March 2-4th - Spring Retreat - Really Want EVERYONE to be there! It will change our Group! The full details are HERE. Sign up today!

Also don't forget our Weekly Share Group meetings at 5:30-7:15pm.
Sunday School classes are at 9am. Starting Feb. 12th we are going to have doughnuts and coffee for you!

Also, GSM LIVE (Our Wednesday Nights) kicks off a new series called "Focus" this week. Be here at 6:30 pm.

Big Dreams for 2012 - Cows, Kids, & The Homeless

For 2012 God has laid on our Hearts the desire to Help Others. This was born out of the idea that Helping Others is what we are supposed to be all about. Jesus never preached to go to church more, church is important, but that was not his messages. It was to LOVE GOD & LOVE OTHERS. So this year GSM has made some BIG goals to do this. I will lay them out below.

Buy A COW (Maybe a bunch of them)
We see cows all the time. Driving down the road, at the fair, or even in the back fields at Camp. Cows are something we take for granted in this country. But in certain areas of the world, a Cow can change everything. In many remote villages that have very little food, water, and money, a Cow can provide a new way of life. The cow isn't a one time meal for the village. The cow provides milk, which provides $ to the village. The cow provides labor to better tend crops, which provides more food & an economy. A cow changes everything.
We are going to buy a cow this year, maybe more than one.

Watch this video to get an idea of the importance of a Cow.

Each Cow cost $500. How will we do this? Here is how:
- GSM teens will talk to their friends & inspire them
- Talk to their schools, maybe get a chance to speak in an assembly (schools view private fundraisers differently, so please talk with your school administrators)
- Talk to FCA or First Priority at School
- Host a "COW" Party
- No anonymous hand out donations. (like a jar at the gas station)
These are just a few ideas. The goal is to interact with their peers to tell the story of the Cow and it's importance. This is to light a fire of outreach amongst our teens to share Jesus with their friends.

FEED & Educate 100's of Children
We are partnering with Hello Somebody to help support children in Rwanda. A mere $25 supports 100 children with 2 meals a day and helping them go to school.

Some teens are committing to helping 1000 or more kids this year. WOW! Here is how:
- We will buy/sell really cool Hello Somebody watches at $25, each watch helps 100 kids
- Sell Hello Somebody t-shirts
- Sell GSM t-shirts at $15 each. The profit from these will go directly to donate to the school in Rwanda. We will design new shirts to sell throughout the year.

I have challenged our teens, instead of a night at the movies or that expensive dinner at Olive Garden. Save their money and support Hello Somebody.
This is a great starting place for GSM to open there minds and hearts to those in desperate poverty around the world.

Homeless Outreach
You may be asking, Sean, that is great and all, but what about all the people locally that need help? Well, I am glad you asked. Gateway holds a monthly Homeless Outreach that is AWESOME! We provide food, supplies, clothes, showers, haircuts, and many other things. This ministry is growing and growing. We had over 100 at our last Outreach. We need help. The teens need to get involved. Some may not feel comfortable in 1 on 1 situations with the homeless, and that is okay (we don't want them 1 on 1 anyway), but there is a lot of service to be done. Passing out food, helping give out supplies, helping in the clothes closet, or with clean up. Over time they will become less apprehensive of the Homeless and realize that this are great people and people who are CLOSE to Jesus' heart. The teens have committed themselves to be a part of this ministry a certain number of times this year.

It is time for GSM to stop thinking about what we want and start thinking about what God wants for us. These are some HUGE dreams and goals that I believe God has put before us in 2012. But I believe with every fiber of my being, that God will use us to do all of this if we get our selfishness out of the way and let Him move us.

To Teens, I am so grateful for how excited you are about this. These goals are now in your hands to let God use you. Let's talk and brainstorm about ways to make it happen! I am praying for you!

Parents, please pray for GSM in all of this and encourage and push your teens to look beyond their wants and to WANT to Help Others!

Welcome to 2012! After a few weeks of trips, we are getting back to our weekly updates.

I hope that the holiday season treated you well and you enjoyed any time off you may have gotten.

Here are a few things on the horizon:

1. Share Group - January 15 - We start share group back up this Sunday Night, 5:30-7:15.

2. Parent/Teen Potluck - January 22 - We will have a luncheon following worship on Sunday. Please bring your favorite side dish or main entree to share. THIS MEETING IS IMPORTANT!!!!! You need to be here with your Teen. We will be going over a lot of plans and dreams for 2012, and I will be asking for your involvement in a lot of this.

3. Spring Retreat - March 2-4th - Our Retreat will be in Panama City this year and will cost $65 per Teen. (Some Financial Assistance is available). The Theme is "MOVE" and we will be talking a lot about letting God move in our lives and working on some Leadership Training for our group. Your Teen WILL NOT want to miss this. I am also looking for volunteers to help cook and simply be present. If you are interested in coming let me know.

Give your Teens A Break! I know Exams are going on this week. Let your teen take a quick break from studying by getting them to Worship this Wednesday night! The message for tomorrow night is "I Want Hope". Along with the message, I am showing a powerful video of some friends who in their darkest moments, saw God's Hope shine through. Your teen won't want to miss it.

PS- Do you know what you teens post online? Whether it's Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook, make sure you are aware of your Teens presence online and knowing if they are representing God how they should be in what they post. I plan to share more about this soon, but want you to be think about it now.

"I WANT..."

As the Christmas season is upon us we hear two words constantly, "I WANT...". Often these words are followed by things and stuff that we desire. This holiday season, we will be challenging ourselves to "WANT" more than that. So be sure to join us at 6:30 over the next few weeks as we desire to "Want" more out of life.

The big guy in the red suit will be making his way down our chimneys pretty soon. But before he does, here are a few quick reminders of things GSM has going on in December.

December 4th - Christmas Program Planning Day - We are assisting with the Christmas program this year and need to plan out our part. Please make plans to stay after morning worship all day with us. Bring clothes to change into and money for lunch. Pick up after share group at 7:15pm (Side note: If you don't want to act or be "in" the program, there is plenty of behind the scenes stuff that needs to get done and we could use your help there)

December 10th - GSM Christmas Party - 6-8pm in the Teen Room. Please bring $5 to cover the cost of dinner and I ask that each teen bring a gift for a game of "Dirty Santa". We are also doing an "ugliest/tackiest Christmas sweater/shirt" contest. Feel free to dress in the tackiest/ugliest Christmas thing you can find.

December 11th - Gateway Christmas Program - This will be in lieu of evening worship. Please make plans to attend and be a part of this. (Refer to the above for what the Teens are doing to be a part of this)

December 18th - Gateway Chili Basketball Classic - Following a short evening devotional is our annual Young vs. Old in a game of Hoops. Their will be hot dogs and chili for everyone to enjoy. This event is a fundraiser for Lithuania Missions.

December 28-31st - Youth In Action - This is a youth rally in Nashville, TN. Please look at the website for full details. CLICK HERE. Spots are going fast.

PaintBall!

This Saturday we are taking a trip to an Area wide church Paint Event. Below are the Details you need to know about.

Where: Sweet Gum Head, FL
Cost: $20 to play $10 if you just want to come hang out and eat, cost will cover paintball equipment rental and Dinner
Time: Be at Gateway at 7:30 am, we will be back late night
What to bring: Clothes to play (preferably layers so the paintball doesn't sting as bad), pack a "Sack Lunch", and snacks that you want to bring for the day.

October Events

As we approach the midpoint in October, I just want to highlight a few things on the calendar.

October 15th - Homeless Outreach & Lunch Afterwards: I want to invite all the teens to come participate in our Homeless Ministry and then go out to lunch afterwards. The H.O.M.E. event is from 10:30-12:30 and then we will get lunch after that as a group.

October 22nd - Gateway Fall Carnival & Trunk or Treat: Please come help from 2-4 pm.

October 22nd - Chris Tomlin Concert: We are trying to get at least 20 people to commit to going for the group rate. Tickets will be $20 per person if we get the group rate. (Sign Up with a money commitment this Wednesday and/or Sunday)

October 23rd - GSM Costume Party: 5:30-7:30 pm. Come dressed up for a night of Fun and Games. Prizes for best dressed and who ever brings the most friends. Cost is $5 to help pay for food.

A peek into November:
November 12th - Paintball Event: We are going to Sweetgum Water to play paintball and have fellowship/worship with some other the area Churches there. Cost is $20 for the whole day. We will leave at 7:30 a.m. and get back later that night.

Fall Retreat

This year our theme will be "Reflection". The purpose of the weekend is to share thoughts and ideas on what scripture teaches us about relationships that we have with our families, friends, and in dating. Our goal is to know that we must "Reflect" and Mirror Jesus to the people in our lives by how we act & what we do.

Info to know:

Date: September 30th - October 2nd
Where: Gulf Coast Bible Camp
Cost: $50 per teen
Times: We will meet at 5:00 pm on Friday, the 30th, and get back about 1 pm on Sunday.
Things to bring: Bedding, Towel, Bathroom/Shower stuff, Clothes (check the weather before packing), Shoes, & Bible

Fall in to Fun

School is almost upon us. So that means a fall schedule. I am finishing up the details of our fall/winter and will make them available soon.

One thing you do need to go ahead and mark on your calendar is the Fall Retreat at GCBC. This will be September 30th-October 2nd. Cost will be $50 per teen. Sign up will begin August 28th.

Orlando Trip Details

What you need to know about our trip

Time: We leave at 11 a.m. Please try to be here 10 minutes before that. (PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE GYM, SO AS TO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE FUNERAL IN THE MAIN BUILDING)

Money: You will need money for 4 meals. Lunch on the way, In the park Friday, Dinner on Friday, and lunch on the way home. Plus Snacks and stuff you choose to buy at the park.

What To Bring:
Bedding to sleep on the floor of a church for 2 nights.
Towel and Bathroom items (soap, toothbrush, etc.)
Clothes for the park
Clothes to travel in
Clothes to not be stinky at the church we are staying at

When We Will Be Back: Saturday around 4-5 pm. We will call an hour out.

August 11-13th - Orlando Road Trip to “Islands of Adventure”
This trip is limited to the first 20 to sign up (all spots have been filled)
Cost: $65 per (plus a park meal, snacks, a dinner, & lunch home)
Times: Be at Church on the 11th @ 11 am
What to Bring: Clothes, toiletries, bedding to sleep on a church floor.

Impact 2011

Here is a reminder of the things you need to know for Impact this year. We leave Monday!

1. Pick up an Impact registration form Sunday, fill it out, & bring it with you Monday!
2. Pack your stuff, Preferably before 1:00 a.m. the day we leave
3. GET YOUR $20 KEY DEPOSIT THAT WILL BE REFUNDED TO YOU ON THE LAST DAY OF IMPACT AS YOU CHECK OUT
4. Be at Gateway at 6:30 a.m. on MONDAY JUNE 20th
5. Pay the rest of your money due by June 20th

Things to bring

$20 cash deposit for your room key, that you will get back at the end of the week if you don’t lose your key
Money for 3 fast food meals while traveling
Any money you want to bring for gas station stops and snacks while at Lipscomb (they sell pizzas every night for the dorms)
Clothes for the week. (There is a dress code, No Spandex, no sleeveless shirts for guys, shorts must be finger-tip length)
Play clothes - you will have free time each day to play sports and games
Bed Stuff - Bring your pillow, sheets and or sleeping bag to sleep
Toiletries aka Bathroom stuff - tooth care stuff, hair care stuff, shampoo, soap, deodorant, shower shoes
Towels for showering

The summer is so close you can almost taste it. I think it taste like sweat and heat.

Bubby Rushing, our intern, will be here this weekend. So next week we will finalize all the small events and release the Calendar next Wednesday night!

Broken

I am so excited to introduce our new series for April. It is called "Broken"! We are going to look at our distorted view of Sin in today's world. We will walk through what sin is, how it looks today, what it does to us, and how we can put it sin in its place through a relationship with Jesus.

Spring Retreat

This Weekend is our Spring Retreat (More like an extended "Lock-In")

I have search hi and low for a retreat center or a beach house to rent, but simply could not find something within our budget.

Soooo....

We are doing our Retreat at Gateway. Or at least we will just spend the night there.
Outside of that we have a bunch of activities planned away from the building.

Here is what you need to know.

Cost: $35
Times: Be at Church Friday Night at 5:30-6pm (In The Gym)
What To Bring: Bring Clothes for play, clothes for sleep, clothes for the beach. Towels, toiletries items, bedding to sleep on the floor, & Bible.

What we will be doing;
Friday - Ascension Day Concert at first city church
Saturday - Beach & Activities
Sunday - Sunrise Worship

NOTE - A number of you plan to take the ACT on Saturday, that is fine, you can meet up with us afterwords. We should be back at the building around 2 to relax before the night activities. Just let me know.

Coming Up

Here are a few things we have going on in the near future.

- April 1st - Impact Deposit due: I will begin accepting $50 deposits for Impact. This trip is for those going into 8th grade through graduates. Only 25 spots available. Click on the link on the right hand side labeled "IMPACT 2011" to get the FULL trip details

- April 2nd - Yard Sale: We are hosting a youth yard sale here at Gateway to benefit our Canada Mission team. Here is how you can help. 1.) Donate some clothes, toys, furniture, tv's, homegoods, etc. to the sale. 2.) Be here on Friday night at 6p.m. then again early Saturday Morning to help set up. The mission team needs help from all the teens to make this happen. Also, please share the information with friends, family, & neighbors to donate and come buy things.

- April 3rd - Mission Luncheon and Teen Auction: Sunday after worship we will be hosting a lunch to highlight our mission efforts. As part of this we will do a Teen Auction to try and raise a little extra funds. The auction will allow members to bid on Teens to do service projects, like babysitting, car washing, yard work, etc. The mission team will primarily be the students that are auctioned off, but we could use some more teens to help. The more teens we have the more money we can make. We will also need teens to help clean up after the lunch is over.

- April 8-10th - Spring Retreat - Cost is $35 for the weekend. We are renting a house on the beach for the weekend. Teens will need to bring clothes, swimwear, beach towels, toiletries, pillows & sleeping bags, and their Bibles. We will leave Gateway at 5:30 Friday night and be back Sunday after noon. (I know some teens are taking the ACT Saturday Morning, I will make a trip back to Pensacola Saturday afternoon to pick these teens, and any teen that has something Friday night and can't leave then)

- April 16th - Gateway Easter Egg Hunt - We will be assisting with this from 12-2pm

Looking Further out:
May 22nd - Senior Sunday & Breakfast - We will honor our graduating Seniors this day. All Juniors & their Parents will prepare and cook the breakfast.

"Slow Down"

Last night we begin a new series, "Slow Down". It is all about us realizing that Life is a journey, and God wants us to slow down and enjoy it in His presences.

To begin the series, we talked about Speed Bumps. You can read a brief description of my lesson here.

But on this blog, I want to share the introduction video for some laughs, and leave you will a few questions to talk with your parents/teens about. I hope to try and give you a few talking points every so often to help you as parents discuss the things we talk about & for you as teens to digest our lessons and talk about them with your folks.

1. Why do we deal with obstacles in life?
2. How can we see God in those challenges?
3. What can we learn from the "Bumps" in the road of life?

This Weekend

We have a few things this weekend.

Friday - RANGO - I thought it would be fun to go see a movie together. We are gonna watch the new animated film, Rango. Meet at the Rave, on Bayou (the one by the mall) at 7:00 for the 7:15 showing. You may want to get your tickets early. This is opening night and I don't know if it will sell out or not. Bring money for the movie and snacks. I don't know when the movie will be over, so I don't know what time they need to get picked up. I would say 9:30 is about when the film lets out, but again, not sure exactly.

Saturday - ECS Auction - We are helping to be the servers at the auction. Need to wear White tops and Black pants/skirts. Guys don't wear skirts. Be at Gateway about 4:00 pm. We should be done around 8:30 pm. I need a least 15 volunteers, more can help, but I need no less than 15.

Hear Ye Hear Ye!

A few things that I want to bring to your attention about the schedule. But before I do an important note on the behavior of our group on Sunday morning:

Teens, I need to be very honest. Your behavior during worship has been terrible lately. It has become an embarrassment to me, and to our group as a whole. You talk, you play on your phones, you write notes, you waste the visitor tags, prayer cards, bulletins, and anything else you find on the pews. I have been getting a lot of complaints about you during worship. Quite frankly, you should be ashamed at your behavior. It does not reflect well upon your desire to actually WORSHIP God, nor does it reflect well upon your parents, your group, & me.
I want you to be in worship on Sundays. But I want you to be there to WORSHIP. I know you guys don't get to see each other all the time, but to use Sunday mornings during worship as your social hour is downright pitiful.
I hope that you understand that I am not Mad or Angry, I am just disappointed. You all talk a Big game at Impact & Camp about how you want Sunday Church to be just as awesome, but then you play games and goof off instead of Focusing on God. Maybe you don't really want that, you just get caught up in the moment at these events. I don't know. But you behavior needs to change. I know Danny might not always share a lesson that interests you, but if you listen, you might learn something that will help you with all the grief you complain about on facebook during the week. Maybe, Ed doesn't always sing the songs that you want too, but worship in singing isn't about us, it is about offering Praise to God.
I Challenge you to "Step YO Game UP!" in Sunday morning worship. Be an example to one another, don't let people next to you goof off. Keep each other accountable.

If the behavior continues, I will start to get mom & dad to come sit with you, and we know you don't want that.
I love you guys and want to see you focus on God during worship.

BACK TO THE SCHEDULE CHANGES:
1.) The Spring Retreat scheduled for April 8-10, will be getting moved. The ACT or SAT is that weekend and a lot of you are planning to take it. I am working on a new date once we book our site.

2.) Due to a schedule conflict with the Men's Retreat, I decide to help them out and move the Sr. Breakfast to May 22nd.

The Weekend Is Upon Us

We have a few things happening this weekend.

On Saturday you have a chance to serve at the Homeless Outreach from 10:30 am - 12:30pm

Sunday is a packed day of worship and fellowship. Don't forget to be in classes at 9am on Sunday morning prior to Worship at 10.

Share Group is back on Sunday Night. Meet with your group during your normal meeting times!

Hope you all have a blessed weekend. Be the example you are called to be!

Winter Jam

This Sunday we are going to head to Mobile for Winter Jam.

What is Winter Jam? It is a Christian Concert Showcase full of awesome contemporary Christian musicians. Go to their website to find out full info. WEBSITE

What does it Cost? Bring $12 to go. Please, try to bring exactly that, I don't know how much change I will have to break 20's. Also, you will need to bring some $ for dinner at a fast food place & money for snacks at the show if you want some.

What Times? Be at Gateway at 3:00 pm to leave. We will be back late, but will call as we head home.

I think that is really all you need to know.
Remember because of this event, we WILL NOT have Share Group this Sunday.

What Is Up!

Here are some things coming up.

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO SHARE GROUP February 6th, 13th, & 27th

February
6th - Parent/Teen Meeting & Luncheon - Make plans to bring your favorite dish to serve & share for a potluck lunch after morning worship in the Gym. We will eat, fellowship, and then have a meeting to discuss plans & goals for 2011. ALL Teens & Parents need to be here!

6th (Evening) - Super Bowl Party at The Ray's - It is going to be time for our annual Super Bowl Party at the home of Amy & Scottie Ray. Boys will need to bring a bag of chips and a 2 liter drink. Girls bring a dessert for the group. We will meet at their home 30 minutes before kick-off and stay till the game is over. WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING TRANSPORTATION, so you will need to find a ride. Parents, feel free to join us if you would like! Their address will be available to pick up at church, or check your directories.

13th - Winter Jam - We are going to travel over to Mobile for a Contemporary Christian Music festival. The cost will be $12 per Teen, plus any money you need for Dinner & Snacks at the show.
We will leave Gateway at 3:00 p.m. & be back late (we will call on the way home)

5th - ECS Auction Volunteering - We will again be helping out our friends at ECS by serving at their annual Silent Auction & Dinner. I need about 10-15 teens to help with this. You will need to wear White Shirts and Black Pants and for girls Black Pants/Skirts. The time will be from about 4-8 or 9 pm that night. YOU GET SERVICE HOURS FOR THIS.

Since this is a Blog, stuff gets shuffled down with every new post. But the links to your right will always provide you with a direct route to the information on events & trips.

January

16th - Canada Missions Meeting - If you are a Teen interested in going on the Canada Mission Trip or a parent of a teen interested in going, you need to be at this meeting. We will meet after Sunday Morning worship in the Teen Room, to discuss some details and plans. YOU HAVE TO BE HERE TO ATTEND THE TRIP. We plan to select the team next by next week. So come to this meeting so we know you want to go.

16-17th - Lock-In - Cost is $10 per Teen. Please bring a friend or two, they get in free. We plan to stay up all night, playing games, watching movies, and hanging out! Please be here at 7 p.m. on Sunday Night & Pick up is at 8 a.m. Monday morning.

29th - Homeless Outreach - Please join us from 10:30am-1pm to help serve our the homeless in our area. We really need you to get involved with this incredible ministry!

February
6th - Parent/Teen Meeting & Luncheon - Make plans to bring your favorite dish to serve & share for a potluck lunch after morning worship in the Gym. We will eat, fellowship, and then have a meeting to discuss plans & goals for 2011. ALL Teens & Parents need to be here!

6th (Evening) - Super Bowl Party at The Ray's - It is going to be time for our annual Super Bowl Party at the home of Amy & Scottie Ray. Boys will need to bring a bag of chips and a 2 liter drink. Girls bring a dessert for the group. We will meet at their home 30 minutes before kick-off and stay till the game is over. WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING TRANSPORTATION, so you will need to find a ride. Parents, feel free to join us if you would like! Their address will be available to pick up at church, or check your directories.

13th - Winter Jam - We are going to travel over to Mobile for a Contemporary Christian Music festival. The cost will be $12 per Teen, plus any money you need for Dinner & Snacks at the show.
We will leave Gateway at 3:00 p.m. & be back late (we will call on the way home)

I am finishing up our plans that will take us through the school year and will post them ASAP, but I want you to know of a few things.

First, NAME CHANGE! - It has been a long time coming. With the new year we are going to update our look a little. From here on we will be known as "Gateway Student Ministries". I know it isn't much, but the idea is to put a fresh face on for this youth group and move in a new direction. We have an updated logo, as you can see above, and I plan to get this website better formatted and more user friendly.

Second, CANADA MISSION TRIP - If you want to go on this (it will be High School only; possible those going into HS next year as well. It will depend on space) then you HAVE TO be at the meeting following Sunday morning church, January 16th, in the teen room. A parent also needs to be there. This meeting will be informational and allow us to know who plans to go. We will be picking the team, only 20 teens can go, by the next Sunday. So be there! If you can not come because of something else you HAVE TO be at, please talk to me personally, don't just assume I know what else you have going on.

Lock-in - January 16-17 - Since the teens are off on Monday we are going to have a lock-in that night. Cost is $10. Be here at 7:00 p.m. and get picked up at 8 a.m. the next morning. Please try to bring a friend, it will be free for visitors.

PARENT MEETING - FEBRUARY 6TH - Following Morning worship we will have a full Teen & Parent meeting to discuss the new year and summer. What do you thing about doing lunch together? This would mean people will have to bring food to feed everyone, potluck style. I think that would be great. Tell me your thoughts. Please spread the word on this to ALL Parents and Teens. I know not everyone checks this or Facebook, so please talk to your friends and fellow parents about this. Thanks!

Sunday School - 2 new classes begin this week. The 7th-8th grade will meet in Room 22 for "The Bible Alive". High School will meet in the Teen Room for "WAKE UP!". These will be great classes and a chance for you to learn more.

PARENTS!!!! - WE NEED YOUR HELP This Sunday Night:
We need Hot Dogs, Buns, Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, and Drinks for the 5th Annual Chili Basketball Classic. Typically the young adults host this event, but because we are raising money to send teens to Canada this summer, we need to do our part! Please let me know if you can help with this.

BIG CHANGES COMING FOR THE GROUP! At the beginning of the year, expect some new and different changes for the group. We are looking to go in a great and exciting direction in 2011. Please be praying for the success of the group as we take a new path and look to grow our ministry.

YOUTH IN ACTION: December 28-31st - I am STILL accepting deposits of $50 for this trip. Total cost is $100 per teen plus some meal money. Information forms are available in the Teen Room. There are only 5 spots left. Check with me if you want one or if you are curious if you have one (cause mom or dad turned $ in for you)

Homeless $ Drive - We have only raised $56.50 of our $200. Guys it is time to step your GAMES UP!! We can do this. I challenge you to raise the rest by the end of this month. Broken down this will only be about $7.50 per person. Not that much. Cheaper than a night at the movies.

Homeless Outreach & Angel Food - December 18th - Plan to join us to help with the Angel Food distribution and the Homeless Outreach afterword. Angel food is from 5:30-9:30 a.m. and Homeless Outreach is 10:30 am till 1:00 p.m. We will need a lot of help as it is cold outside and people are going to be looking to get out of the weather for a few hours.

Gateway Chili Basketball Classic: December 19th - We will once again have an 'Young vs. Old' game. This will follow our Sunday Evening Devotional. We will be raising money for our Canada Mission Trip in June.

Today is the last day of November, and tomorrow we will move into the final month of the year! It is crazy how fast this year has gone by. If your not careful this month will be over in a blink as well.

Here are a few things coming up that you need to be aware of.

TEEN CHRISTMAS PARTY: We are batting around a few dates for this. I apologize that we have not set a solid date. I hope to have the date secured by the end of this week. At the party we will have food, fun, fellowship, an "Ugliest Christmas Sweater" contest, play "Dirty Santa", & and have a large prize for who ever brings the most friends.

Hey everyone. This past Saturday we had a great Leadership Retreat with the 10th, 11th, & 12th grade. I know that not everyone could make it, but those who did, we had lots of fun. One of the things we did, was sit down a discuss the group as a whole. We talked a lot about some ways to improve everything that we do and to make our Youth Group successful in the events that we have, in our worship, in attendance, in service, and most importantly in our Spiritual Growth. Our plan is to have an afternoon planning meeting soon to discuss with the whole group some of the ideas we talked about Saturday and start making plans to make it all happen. November is a busy month and so is December, but I would like us to possibly do this the second weekend of December. That would be the 12th. What we will do is stay after church, eat lunch and then meet. We can hang out all day till the Christmas Play that evening.

Wednesday Night Class - We continue our Wednesday night series called, "Thanks DAD!". You don't want to miss it. We sharing passages from the Psalms and talking about being Thankful to our Heavenly Father! Class begins at 6:30 p.m. (try not to be late, we actually start on time these days).

The month of Thanksgiving has already begun! We had an incredible time at the Halloween Bash Last Sunday Night. If you weren't there you really missed out. Hunter Roy won a $50 gift card to Best Buy for bringing a friend. So be sure to invite people to events like this. You could be the next big winner at our Christmas Party in December.

Here are some things you need to know.

Leadership Retreat - November 6-7th. If you are a 10th, 11th, or 12th grader (I just opened this up to 10th grade) then you will want to be here. We are gonna begin at 4 p.m. in the Gym. We are gonna go out for some fun and then work on plans & ideas for the future of the youth group. You really don't want to miss this chance to have your goals and ideas heard as well as a chance to have some fun with the group. Cost will be $10, to cover food.

Angel Food & Homeless Outreach - October 30th - Angel Food begins at around 5:30 a.m. and lasts till about 9:30 a.m.
The Homeless Outreach is from 10:30a.m.-12:30 p.m. WE NEED MORE HELP WITH THIS. We had almost 70 men & women last month. This month expects to be the same or MORE. Please make time to serve.

Here are a few things for you to be looking forward to as October begins in just a few day.

Fall Retreat - October 1-3rd: THIS WEEKEND! We are going to be joining some other churches from the Gulf Coast out at Gulf Coast Bible Camp for a weekend of Worship & Fellowship. The cost is $50 per teen. You need to be at Gateway at 5:15 p.m. on Friday night. We plan to be back on Sunday around 1-2 p.m. You need to bring clothes that are appropriate for the weather and shoes, Bedding/Sleeping bag, Pillow, Towel, bathroom stuff, Bible, and a flashlight.
(I am still looking to see if any parents want to join us. It is free to you. Let me know by Wednesday night)

Gateway Family Fall Festival - October 23rd: This is our annual Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat. We plan to help out again by running the games inside the gym or by setting up a Car trunk to pass out candy to all the children who will be there. Times will be announced as we get closer.

I hope you will be at Share Groups as we are gonna put more emphasis on YOU and your questions about faith and/or culture and how to approach your questions from a Godly way.

As you can tell, I am not really very musically inclined. I love music, but the Lord did not see fit to give me the ability to make/play any of it.
I had a lot of fun shooting this video and getting to pretend like I knew what I was doing. Big Thanks to Ascension Day (Ed, Derek, & Adam) for letting me hang with them at a practice.

Here is what is up with Teen Gateway this week and into the future.

Wednesday Nights - We are about to wrap up our September Series, "All Things New". I must say that it has been a lot of fun sharing the Word this month about God as our creator and his desire to see us "New" each day. It has been cool to do some new things as well. If you haven't seen the videos, look at some of the previous posts on the blog or go to our youtube page. Click --> HERE. I hope that you will make plans to join us this week for our time together on Wednesday nights.

Sunday Mornings - We hope you can join us. Classes are really going great this quarter. Just ask anyone who has been here.

Right now, we have 2 different classes going on:

The Jr. High (7th-8th grade) are meeting with Charles McCown and discussing a book called "Out With Doubt". They are talking about having a stronger faith and answering the tough "doubts" that we have at times.
Sr. High (9th-12th grade) are meeting with Sean & Derek in the Teen Room. We have begun a class called "The Jesus I Never Knew". In this class we are using video, images, and cultural ideas to talk about what the "world" thinks about Jesus. Then we are using Jesus' own words to counter these thoughts, and learn about who Jesus really was & more importantly who he IS to us today.

Share Group - This past Sunday night we all sat down and talked about ways we can make Share Group better. I got a lot of good input on what YOU, the teens, would like to do. So be prepared for Share Group 2.0! This fall we will be discussing questions that you have on faith and the church, we will also have some service & devotional field trips, mix in some fun activities, & be more structured. Which part of the Structure, means you need to be on time to help us get started at the right times.

Fall Retreat: October 1-3rd, Cost is $50 - Again we will be out at Gulf Coast Bible Camp for an area wide retreat. A sign up sheet will be up this Week & I flier for you to take home of times & what to bring.

All Things New Part 3 - The Vette

As part of Teen Gateway's September series, "All Things New". I have been trying/doing new things and sharing them in class.
This week I got to do one of the coolest things ever, for the first time.

Farrell Hardiman is a Corvette enthusiast and has had numerous "vettes" over the years. This one is his, fresh out of restoration, 1967 Corvette Stingray. It was so cool just to sit in it, let alone get a chance to take it around the block! Big Thanks to Farrell for letting me do this!

It is Tuesday again, so we are getting update on the things going on with Teen Gateway!

Wednesday Nights - YOU NEED TO BE HERE! We are in the middle of an exciting series entitled "All Things New". It has been a lot of fun teaching on God's love for his creation. If you haven't been coming you are missing out. If you haven't seen the videos, check out our YouTube page. Sunday Mornings - We had a very small group of you show up for Sunday School this past week. I want to encourage you to be here. I know 9 a.m. is early, but your presence in Bible Class is SO important to our group. When you are not here, we really miss you.

Lock-In

This Sunday Night September 5th. We are going to have an All-night Lock-in!

When part 1: Get dropped off at 7:30 p.m. (please eat dinner before you come, we will have snacks but not a meal.
When part 2: Get picked up Monday morning at 7:30 a.m.
Cost: $10 per teen
What to bring: A friend, clothes to have fun in all night, & a good attitude! (and maybe some caffeine to get you through the night.)

All Things New

Next Month, Teen Gateway will begin a new message series on Wednesday nights called, "All Things New".

We are gonna be discussing how God, as a creator, love to make new things. Because of this, he has a desire to make us new daily!

Also, throughout the series, I will be trying new things myself. What you may ask? Well, you will just have to be there to find out.

I am currently trying to put together a full fall/winter calendar, but we do have some things you need to know about that are coming up soon.

Here are some dates to know:

August 28th - Angel Food Ministry - begins around 5-5:30 a.m. and lasts till about 9:30.
August 28th - Homeless Outreach - Following Angel Food at 10:30-12:30 we will have out Homeless event
August 29th - Gateway's End of the Summer Beach Devotional - Danny will make us aware of the details for this event on Sunday morning (it will be an evening event)
September 12th - Share Group Kick-off - We will have a big share group party to celebrate the end of summer, beginning of school, & the beginning of Share Group. It will be 5:30-7:30 p.m.
October 1-3 - Fall Retreat - This will be again at Gulf Coast Bible Camp. Cost is $50 per teen. Details on when we leave will be available in Mid-September.

Those are the main dates to know right now.

A few other things you can help with is donations for the homeless outreach. If you have any old backpacks that you would like to donate, please bring them on Sundays or Wednesdays. The homeless in our community are always in need of backpacks to carry their belongings. We can help with that need!

CHANGE OF PLANS!!!

The summer schedule claims that this Saturday night will be our end of the Summer Bash, but we are changing plans.

We are going to do our end of the Summer SlideShow & Bash this Sunday Night after evening Church.
Church this evening is going to be our Gateway Work at Church Night where Burl will have a number of service projects around the church building for us to work on. This will begin at 5 and after that is over (probably 7) we will watch our Slideshow and have a good time remembering the summer that was.

Please make plans to attend. It will be a lot of fun laughing and thinking about all that has happened since school got out!

Hello Teen Gateway & Parents!

I have a new way to keep you connected with Teen Gateway Updates.

FREE TEXT MESSAGING!!!! (at least if you get unlimited texts)

Here are the easy steps to sign up:
- Go to the website www.rainedout.com!
- Then in the "Find your organization" spot, type "Teen Gateway" and then search.
- Click on "Teen Gateway" in results.
- Click "Sign up now for mobile alerts"
- Put in a username, password, cell #, etc. (don't worry this is safe and your info is kept private)
- Once you sign up you will be texted a confirmation code that you enter online, as well as an email validation code to validate your email so you get updates there as well.
- After validation you will be set up to receive text updates from Teen Gateway.

Please remember that "Standard Text Messaging Rates Apply". This means what you pay per text by your cell phone company is what you are charged. If you have unlimited texting then it won't cost you a thing.

Also note that each Text Update will be accompanied by an Advertisement of some sort. That is how this stays free. It is usually at the bottom of every text. This company is a family friendly organization, because its geared toward sports leagues and other organizations, so the advertisements will be family friendly.

I hope that all of you will sign up for this, as it will be another way for me to keep you updated with Teen Gateway info!

WORK CAMP 2010

Work Camp 2010

When: Work Camp will be from August 5-10.
Times: Please refer to individual day schedules below
Cost: $35 per student plus the cost of Food at Waterville on Saturday (The $35 will cover entrance fee to Waterville. If you choose not to go to Waterville, Cost is $25 for just work days)
What to bring: Wear Work Clothes (MUST WEAR SHOES) on Thursday/Friday & Monday/Tuesday, plus bring extra clothes to change into for dinner and devo at night.
Other things to know: All 3 meals will be provided every work day, as well as Dinner on Saturday & Lunch and Dinner on Sunday.

Daily Schedule of Events

August 5th-6th (Thursday & Friday): Work Days 1 & 2
-Drop off between 8:00 & 8:30 a.m.
-Pick-up is 8:30 at night
-Wear work clothes & bring clothes to change into for dinner & devo at night

August 7th (Saturday): We are going to Waterville
-Drop off at 9 a.m.

Gateway Basketball Camp
-We need your Help to make our basketball camp a success!

Time: We will meet right after Worship in the Teen Room and stay together for lunch, the movie, and till evening worship at church
Cost: $7.50 for the movie & money for snacks at the theater and $10-12 for lunch. (I have not decided where we are going for lunch, but it won't be fast food. Possibly the mall, Moe's, Ozones pizza, or a place like that)

Be sure to bring a change of clothes for after church and what you will want to wear for evening worship.

Mission: Road Trip 2010

July 5-10th

For this years Service Trip, we are taking a road trip to Nashville, Atlanta, Jacksonville, & Orlando. We will be doing various service work in each city as well as going to “Islands of Adventure” theme park in Orlando.

THIS TRIP IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO 23 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. 1ST COME 1ST SERVE. PAYMENT WILL HOLD YOUR SPOT!

Cost: $75 per Teen

Additional Money: You will pay for 8 Meals on the trip. 1 of those meals is at an Amusement park. So plan accordingly. You will also need money for travel snacks and any souvenirs you plan to purchase.

Times: Be at Church at 7 a.m. on Monday July 5th. We plan to be back home around 5-6 p.m. on the 10th.

What to bring: (PACK LIGHT) You will need work clothes for everyday, bring clothes for Wednesday night worship & an event with a youth group on Thursday, bring bedding (will will be sleeping on floors at churches, so bring what you need to be comfortable), toiletries, clothes for the theme park.

Guys & Girls Bible Studies
Join us this summer for Weekly Bible Study throughout the Summer!
The guys will be studying stories to both challenge and strength our faith. The girls will be talking about how God can use them to Change the World!

SUMMER KICKOFF
We are gonna kick the summer off with a bang THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 12th
Here is what you need to know:

Where: Meet @ the Gateway FLC (that is the Gym)
Cost: $3 to cover food
What to Bring: Yourself, A friend would be nice! Wear Clothes for Activites, Bring a bathing suit, towel, and other things for swimming. We are going to a BBQ/Pool Party

New 7th Graders are invited to this event! (so are parents)

CAMP 2010 "CALLED"
Camp applications are now available!!
Camp is available to all students entering the 3rd grade next school year through our graduated Seniors.
Camp is July 18-24th
Cost $95 per camper (deposit of $45, due as soon as you can get it in)

Senior High "Service Road Trip"
The details for our Road Trip this year are currently being planned. So there is not a lot of things to tell you about other than the dates. Spots are limited though to 22 High School Students
WHO: This trip is available for all High Schoolers
(Older Teens will get first priority to attend)

Summer Stuff

Here are a few things coming up for the summer!

May:
CAMP APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND. CAMP is open to those entering 3rd grade next year through graduates. Invite a friend!

June:

Lock-in: TBD - We are trying to find a good date for this to happen

Summer Kick-Off: June 12th be at the church at 3 and bring a swimsuit! We will be back at 9 that night. (times may vary, stay tuned)

Impact - Spots are full! If you are going you need to be at the church at 6:45 on June 21st! Be sure to have your $20 cash for your room key deposit and money for travel meals (3 of them). Pay remaining balance due by the time we leave.

VBS: June 27-30th

July:

Senior High Road Trip: July 5-12th. Cost TBD. Only 22 spots available. Seniority gets first dibs at spots.

CAMP: July 18th-24th. INVITE a friend. I want us to have over a hundred people at Camp this year!!! We had 75 last year. We can get 25 more if you invite friends!

Summer is almost here

The summer is almost upon us and it is time to start thinking about all that we have going on. So here is a list of some stuff you need to be aware of. (we will go by month to make it easier)

APRIL
- Impact Deposits are Due - Impact is our annual trip to a youth rally at Lipscomb University. The trip is available to all those going into 8th grade next year through our graduates. Total cost is $155, and a deposit of $50 secures your spot. Deposits are due immediately, space is limited so it is first come, first serve.

MAY
- Camping Trip - May 14-15th, we are going on an overnight camping trip. This will either be at Ft. Pikens or Johnson's Beach. Cost will be $10 to cover food and some supplies. This is a guy and girl event.

- Senior Breakfast - On May 16th we will have our senior breakfast in the FLC. If you are a senior please make plans to attend. If you are a junior, you and your family are responsible for hosting the meal.

- Lock-in - May 28th, we will start the summer off with a lock-in. Cost will be $10 per teen. PLEASE INVITE FRIENDS TO JOIN US THAT NIGHT

JUNE
-IMPACT- June 21-26th

-VBS - June 27-30th (at night)

Spring RETREAT

Hey Guys, this weekend is gonna be our "Retreat". Here is the information that you need to know.
- Cost is $20, this will cover our food and supplies for the work we do Saturday
- Be here at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night
- Bring bedding to sleep on the floor
- Bring clothes to play games in on Friday night
- Bring clothes to work outside in on Saturday
- WEAR TENNIS SHOES OR WORK SHOES, PLEASE DON'T COME IN JUST SANDALS
- Feel free to bring a fishing pole for some "Catfishing" on Saturday
- If you want to bring a little money for the thrift shopping center we will visit you can
- We should be back at Church around 4-5 p.m. on Saturday. We will call on our way back

This retreat is about spending time together and putting our money where our mouths are as far as service goes.

Here is what is going on in March

March 6th - ECS "A Bid For Excellence" Volunteering: We will be helping to serve dinner at the ECS Auction this evening. Dress code is White Shirts and Black Pants/Skirt.

March 12th - Belles and Beaux Concert: Gateway is hosting Harding Universities musical group in the Family Life Center (the gym) from 6-7 p.m. with a dessert and punch reception afterward. Please make plans to attend this fellowship get together.

March 14th - FRIEND DAY @ GATEWAY: We are hosting our annual Friend Day to show off Gateway to our friends. Please invite some friends. Some of the Teens will be involved with helping Mrs. Debbie's Bold Bible Kids this day.

March 19-20th - Mystery Spring Retreat: We are having a 1 night only retreat this year. The Cost will be $20 per teen. What we are doing is super "Hush-Hush", but parents if you need to know I will tell you in secret. I can tell you we will be doing some service work on Saturday, so plan on bringing clothes to work in. A Flyer will be available this Wednesday.

March 27th - Gateway Easter Egg Hunt: From 1-3 at church we are helping with the family Easter celebration.

That is a busy March. We may have a few spontaneous things here and there so just keep you ear to the ground.

Our trip to Winter Jam 2010 has been canceled. I apologize that I have to do this, but with some actual snowfall over in Mobile and the roads been so wet, and possibly icing some this evening, it will not be safe to make the trip. Sorry!!!

On the other hand this means you shouldn't be out to late and you can get up and come to the Men's Ministry Camp Benefit Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. tomorrow morning. We could really use a good number of you there to help clean and serve!

February 7th - Super Bowl Sunday - This Sunday at the Ray's house. Be there at 5 p.m. Girls bring desserts and Guys bring Chips & a 2 liter drink. We will be there till the game is over or you folks come to pick you up!

February 12th - Winter Jam 2010 - This is a Christian Concert series in Mobile, AL. The cost is $10 per teen, plus what ever snack/drinks you buy at the show. We will be leaving the Church at 4:45 p.m. EAT BEFORE YOU COME. WE WILL NOT BE STOPPING FOR DINNER.

The semester is winding down quickly. Thanksgiving and Christmas break are right around the corner (So is my birthday!) I want to update you all on 2 big things happening in December. The Teen Gateway Christmas Party and Youth In Action.

December 20th - Teen Gateway Christmas Party - This year our Christmas party will be on a Sunday. The plan is to stay after church service that morning and spend the afternoon together leading up to evening Worship. Teens will want to bring a change of clothing for the day. We are going to eat lunch together, go on an outing that will include playing in some man made snow (so dress accordingly for that). Also we will play "Dirty Santa" together. The rule for "Dirty Santa" is to bring a gift, it can be something lying around your house so you don't have to spend $, or you can go out and buy something that cost no more than $5 for the game. It will be a fun event and after evening worship is our 3rd annual Chili Basketball Classic here at Gateway. Please make plans to attend!

December 28th-31st - Youth In Action

Cost: $95 per teen ($85 per teen if sending multiple teens)
DEPOSIT: A $50 deposit is due November 29th. This deposit will secure your spot. ONLY 30 spots are available to go.
Things to bring: Clothes for cold weather, bathroom stuff, the usual trip stuff
When we leave: Be at Gateway at 7:00 a.m. on Monday the 28th for us to leave.

COMING UP!!!!

November 6-8th - Fall Retreat @ Gulf Coast Bible Camp: Cost is $50 per student. Meet at Gateway on Friday the 6th at 6:00 p.m. You will need Clothes, Bedding, Bathroom Stuff, Bible, Flashlight, etc. for the Retreat! Sign Up Sheet will be available this week, and a $10 deposit is due by October 28th. I am not sure what time we will be back on Sunday, this is an area wide retreat and I am not involved in the organization of it. I have yet to see a schedule of events so I am unaware of what time we will be done on Sunday. Teens will call as we leave, it should be around 1-2 p.m. when we get back.

November 15th - Veranda Chapel & hosting the hospitality luncheon after church

November 29th - $50 deposit due for anyone planning to go to Youth In Action in December

LOOKING FURTHER OUT:

December 6th - We will be having our share group at the Brilliant Bean coffee house. We will meet as usual at 5:30 at the Gym and leave by 5:45. We will be back at church by 8:00 p.m. Bring money for any food or coffee you want to purchase.

December 20th - TEEN CHRISTMAS PARTY - This will be directly after morning worship and last till evening worship service. Cost will be $5 plus a gift for dirty Santa game (cost of gift can be $0-$5, feel free to wrap some junk you already have lying around your house. It makes the game better). Lunch will be provided. Dinner will be at the Chili Basketball Classic that night

December 20th - Chili Basketball Classic - Following evening worship; The young guys will play the Adults in a game of Basketball. Hot Dogs and Chili will be served.

December 28-31st - Youth In Action: This will be in Nashville: Full Cost will be $95 per student, $85 per student if you send Multiple Teens. A deposit of $50 is due by November 29th.

PARENTS!!!!: I am Looking for Chaperons for The Fall Retreat and Youth In Action. Please let me know if you Would Like To Help Out!

EDIT TO THIS POST: I have decided to postpone the event in Defuniak Springs on November 14-15th. It just did not seem like a good time to take this trip. We will plan to do it in 2010

The Importance of Being on Time

Hello All!

Something I want to encourage you all to do, is BE ON TIME!

This is an important quality to develop for life in general, but I won't give you that talk here. I want to put it in the scope of Bible Class:

As I was working on my Sunday School Lesson this week. I just keep thinking. I hope everyone is here this Sunday, and I hope they all make it on time.

You see we are starting a new quarter and in the Sr. High Class we are going to be working with the book "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan. It is awesome! It is a book that is challenging and inspiring!

So I keep thinking there is a lot of material to cover in this book and I don't want anyone to miss out. Because there is so much, we will not be able to start late like we normally do. We will have to get started just minutes after 9.

I hope that all of you can be strong and get up early enough to make it on time. I would hate for you to miss out on the power that is this book and God's word.

I am sure if you come in late you will miss something and be confused.

If it is mom and dad who make you late. Encourage them to get up a little early so you can get to class on time.

Oh and I bet Derek would appreciate the Middle Schooler's being on time too!

Its Cool To Be In School

Ahhhh..... Do you hear that? It is the sound of little teenagers back in school! Music to my ears (at least for a month or so, then I miss you guys dearly)

Well, school is back in session and we are taking things slow as we move into the fall. Between adjusting to fatherhood, going on 3 week long trips in a 5 week period, 2 lock-ins, and driving 2063 miles in 6 days. I am a little worn out. So we don't have a lot going on this month.

Please look at this as an opportunity to hang out with each other, and spend some much needed time with you families (I know they miss you).

We do have a few things to look forward too though!

IN SEPTEMBER:
September 6th - The Teens will lead the last Sunday Night Live service of the summer
September 13th - Share group will begin again in the Gym. 5:30-7:30 p.m.
September 20th - Veranda Chapel service!

Here are some things to be looking forward too this fall!
October 31st - Gateway's Trunk or Treat
October 31st - Teen Gateway's Halloween Extravaganza! (this will be after the trunk or treat)
November 6-8th - Fall Retreat at GCBC (More Details will be available in October)
December 28-30th - Youth In Action

The Summer Is Over!!!

Well not just yet!

Here are a few things coming up in the last few moments before school starts back up.

Aug. 13th - TNT: If you haven't been joining us for our Thursday Night Togetherness Bible study, you are missing out on a great time studying the book of Romans. We are meeting at Trever's at 6 this week. Eat before you come, you can hang out afterward for a while if you wish. Ask Trever for directions if you need them.
Aug. 14th - Movie Night: We have been invited over to the Hinsch's house to celebrate Chris' graduation and watch a movie. We are going to meet at Gateway @ 5:30 p.m. and be back at 9:30 p.m. We will watch a movie and have dinner at the Hinsch's.
Aug. 15th - Jr. High Trip to Exploreum: If you are in 7th or 8th Grade, we are going to go to the Exploreum Museum in Mobile for a fun filled day. Aug. 22nd - End of Summer Banquet: We will have a dinner and slideshow in the FLC to celebrate the wonderful summer that we have had. Parents are welcome to attend. Please dress up a little (not formal wear, but nice clothes). If you have any pictures you would like in the slide show, please get them to Sean by the 19th.
Aug. 28th - Angel Food Over-Nighter: We are going to have an Over-Nighter that Friday night and get up early Saturday morning to help with Angel Food. Be at Gateway at 8:30 p.m. Friday night and plan on staying till at least 11 a.m. on Saturday. (Eat Dinner before you come and bring stuff to sleep)

I will also need about 6-7 guys or gals to help me on 2 different days with some yard work here at Gateway and at a ladies house before you guys go back to school. Please let me know if you can help.

The trip to Waterville this Saturday is being postponed due to a stormy weather forecast!

The plan is to no longer go this Saturday but rather go on Saturday August 8th.

August 8th was originally planned to be the day teens where picked up from the Work Camp. Now instead of being picked up that morning, we are going to go to Waterville. Teens will be picked up later that afternoon!

Hello all!

A few things to think about.

1. CAMP was great! I love each of you and I hope you will live the motto: "I am second"

2. Waterville - this Saturday. Cost is $30 plus some food money. (I plan for us to leave the park for lunch, we will get handstamps to come back in. Park food cost a lot, so we will eat at a fast food place nearby. This will hopefully save you some $)

3. WorkCamp - August 5-8th - Cost is $10 per person. We will sleep in the gym starting after church on Wednesday night and do our work days on Thursday and Friday. Teens will be picked up on Saturday morning. Bring work clothes, and stuff to spend the night and sleep on the gym floor for 3 nights.

4. Jr. High Students trip to the Mobile Exploreum - August 15th - If you are in 7 - 8th grade, plan on joinin us for a day at the Mobile Exploreum. It will be a great time for you guys to bond with each other and not have the high schoolers annoying you ;) Cost will be $10 plus lunch.

Just to fill everyone in on a few quick things.

Tuesday June 30th - Camp Happy Sands: We are going to provide lunch out at a day camp for underprivileged kids on Johnson Beach. Bring Beach clothes, towels, and all of that stuff. Be at Church at 9:00 a.m. I plan to have everyone back at the church at about 2. I am not sure if that is exactly when will get back, but we will call on our way back.

On Wednesday night you will be provided with a "What to bring to Camp" list and a "What to bring for the Sr. High Mission Trip" list. So be ready for those.

July 6-11th - Sr. High Mission Trip - Cost is $25 plus the cost of 6 meals (fast food), any gas station snacks, and souvenirs/etc. on the trip at the amusement park or anywhere else. Only 22 spots available. So once they are filled they are GONE!

Well hello there everyone, let me update you on the things going on with Teen Gateway!

Sundays and Wednesdays
- Sundays we are doing a split boys and girls class. The Girls are meeting in the Teen Room and doing a study of the book of Esther with Kay Watson, who is an awesome teacher and such a Godly woman for our girls to be learning from. The Guys are meeting in Room 22 and doing a study on the Wild at Heart book by John Eldridge.
- Wednesday nights are "How Great is Our God" Wednesdays. We are spending some time in worship each evening and then watching lessons by the great Louie Giglio on the big screen.

Coming up soon

Lock-In - This FRIDAY night is our lock-in! Meet at the church @ 6:00 p.m. Bring $10 for the event. ALSO BE SURE TO EAT DINNER BEFORE YOU COME, WE ARE NOT EATING DINNER TOGETHER! We are going bowling so bring any extra money you need for snacks or video games at the bowling ally. Parents please pick up your Teen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning!
Veranda Chapel - This Sunday, June 14th, we are host chapel again at the Veranda! We will leave at 10:10 a.m. and be back by the end of church around 11:30 p.m.
SNL - This Sunday night will begin SNL. Teens you will be providing the bible lesson for the Bold Bible Kids. It is gonna be awesome ministering to the young kids here at Gateway and for them to see you taking an active role in your faith!
TNT - Next Thursday, June 18th, begins our bi-weekly Thursday Night Togetherness. This is going to be a serious and intimate study of the book of Romans. This is open to our Senior High (9th-12th grade). Please come prepared to open up about what God tells the church in Rome and how it is so applicable for today! This is maybe my favorite book in the B - I - B - L - E! So I am really pumped about it!
VBS - June 20th - Be ready to help Mrs. Debbie put on another Rocking VBS for our childern and the community!
IMPACT - June 22-27th - Be @ Gateway on the 22nd at 7:00 a.m. with your luggage, your $ for meals on the way up there, $20 cash for your room key deposit (you will get this back at the end of the week if you don't lose your key!), and don't forget to bring your remaining balance for Impact if you have one!
Camp Happy Sands - June 30th - We are providing lunch for the kids at Camp Happy Sands in Perdido. It will be a lot of fun playing with the kids at the beach. Bring towel, sunscreen, wear bathing suit under some clothes to play in.

CAMP APPLICATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE, PLEASE PICK ONE UP AT THE INFORMATION DESK!!!! CAMP IS JULY 19-25TH!

Summer is here and here are some current happenings.

- Wednesday, May 27th. Parent meeting in room 23 at 5:50 p.m. Please be sure to make Plans to be there. We will go over the summer schedule. PARENTS OF KIDS GOING INTO 7TH GRADE PLEASE BE THERE

- SUNDAY May 31st. SUMMER KICKOFF! We are going to have a whole day of fun together. Starting right after church we are going to hang out and go grab lunch together and then at 3:30 we will leave for the Kittell's bay property. There we will swim, ride the boat, and have a BBQ. Bring $5-10 for lunch (we are going to a fast food place), your swimsuit, towel, flippy-floppies, sunscreen and all that good stuff you need for outdoor fun. OUR NEW 7TH GRADERS ARE WELCOME TO COME!

- The rest you will find out tomorrow night when the Summer schedule is passed out.

This is going to be a great summer. Remember the more that you are involved the more joy you will get out of being a part of this group.

Here is just a reminder of things coming up!

FIRST let me say there are only a few spots left for IMPACT, get your money in ASAP or else you will miss out!! A $50 deposit secures your spot. (Total cost is $145 per teen or $135 per teen if you send multiple children.)

May 2nd - Kid's Night Out - we are going to be providing Childcare for the evening so mom's and dad's can go out and have a date night together. We will play in the gym, have a snack, and maybe watch a movie. Times will be from 6:00 to 9:30 for the teens. Parents will begin picking up their little kids at 9:00 p.m.
May 3rd - Share Group at Warrington Church of Christ - We have been asked to perform the worship session at Warrington that evening. So we will meet during regular Share Group time and head over to Warrington and be back at Gateway during normal ending time. Some of you Boys need to be gearing up to lead some songs, read scripture, and share some words of wisdom!
May 6th - Impact Paper Work Due - For those of you signed up to go to Impact, you will get your paper work on April 30th. You will have a week to get it back to me! (And don't say this isn't enough time, it will take 5 minutes at the most to fill out)
May 16th - Music Festival in Foley featuring Ascension Day. Cost will be $20 by May 10th
May 24th (NOTE THAT THIS DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM THE 31st) - Senior Day - We will honor our Graduating Seniors here at Church with a breakfast prepared by the Junior Class!
May 31st - Summer Kick-off - We will begin the Summer right with a kick-off Party. This will be Sunday Night and details of where and when will be available soon!

Well after a few weeks of not updating things here, due to a baby at home. I am going to update everyone that is going on. THIS IS A LONG POST SO READ IT ALL!

- First a big shout out to you all for the efforts that you put into the Veranda every month. It really is such a blessing to the residents that we come and worship with them every month. So great job, and thank you all for your willingness to participate in this ministry.

- Next, if you are not attending Sunday Morning Class. YOU SHOULD BE!!! We are doing a combined class with the young adults/college group. The class focuses on "Why Young People Leave The Church". So far the first two classes have been great. We have really talked about some important things and the upcoming classes look to be just as informative and thoughtful. So please be there. Also, this class is meant for you to share your opinions of what you as "young people" see as the good and the bad of church and why people your age stick with the church or turn away from Christianity. So speak up, I know you all have opinions!

Now onto some business. Here are a few things to be thinking of as we finish up April and move into May!

APRIL 22nd - THAT IS THIS WEDNESDAY! - I need $50 IMPACT deposits. Spots are becoming fewer and fewer. Remember once all 30 spots are full I can not take anyone else. The Full Cost is $145 per teen (unless you sent multiple teens then it is $135 per teen)
April 24-26th - The Gateways Men's Retreat - This weekend at Gulf Coast Bible Camp, Cost is $20 per person. See Tom Foster or Steve Jordan for details.

Looking into May...

Remember that we are going directly from Warrington to Jim Miller's. We will not be coming back to Gateway to drop anyone off or pick anyone up. If you are getting parents to drive you here is the address they will need to get to where we are going to be; 2205 Clubhouse Drive, Lillian, AL 36549. I know it says AL, it is just over the 98 bridge.
I forgot to say this last night, Boys need to bring chips and Girls need to bring a dessert. Pass the word around to your friends.

Alright, Teen Gateway! Here is the scoop on what is going on over the next few weeks. Please Read everything and be sure to mark your calendars.

APRIL 4th: GATEWAY EASTER EGG HUNT - Be here at 9:30 to help set up for the Easter Egg hunt and games. The event will end at 12:30, but hang out to help Mrs. Debbie clean everything up!

APRIL 5th: Worship at Warrington Church of Christ - Be at church for normal Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. The youth group will leave at 9:30 to head for Warrington to worship.

APRIL 5th: Spring Sunday Fun Day - Directly after worship at Warrington, the Group will head to Jim and Rachel Miller's house for a BBQ and Pool Party. The group will be back at Gateway around 5:30 that evening. (NO SHARE GROUP THAT NIGHT)
Things to bring:

Play Clothes to change out of your church clothes
Bathing Suit
Towel
Sunscreen

NOTE: THE YOUTH GROUP WILL BE GOING DIRECTLY FROM WARRINGTON TO THE MILLER'S. IF YOU GO TO WARRINGTON WITH THE GROUP, THE BUS/VAN ARE NOT COMING BACK TO GATEWAY. April 19th: Hospitality Meal - Teen Gateway is assisting with this meal. Boys bring drinks and girls bring desserts.

April 22nd: $50 IMPACT DEPOSIT IS DUE - Impact is a youth ralley at Lipscomb University. The total cost of this trip is $145 (or $135 if you are sending multiple teens). There are only 30 Spots available (28 now). Once these spots are full, no one else can go. Your NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $50 ensures that you are going.

April 24-25th: Men's Retreat - This will be at Gulf Coast Bible Camp this year. Cost is $25

Hey Teen Gateway!

We had a wonderful weekend in Panama City! We were blessed to have a new brother and sister in Christ. Congratulations to John William Arnold and Hallah Hancock for their decision to be baptized this past Saturday. This is a time for us to rally around these new Christians and show them a lot of support. Satan will try to tell them they are no different now, but we know that is a Lie! They are NEW and CHANGED through the blood of Christ. They are God's Glory Revealed as we all are who put on Christ! So pray for them and pray for each other!

We have a great event coming up toward the end of the month.
On May 28th, we will head over to the Ronald McDonald house to help serve some food, clean, and spend time with any families who may be there.
I will provide more details (times, what to bring, etc.) when I get them from the people at the House.

We will be going to the Veranda this Sunday, March 22nd. As always, we will leave at 10:10 a.m. and be back at about 11:30.

Also be thinking further out!

Not a lot is Planned for April because of the birth of my Son, but take this as an opportunity to plan something for you guys to do as a group together. (I don't always have to plan something Official)
Also, I know you guys have Spring Break coming up. I would like to see a lot of you during that time. If you aren't up to anything, Call me or drop by my office. If you are doing something, call and invite me. I would love to hang out during your time off!

Spring Retreat!!!!

The Spring is almost here! That means it is time to gear up for our Spring Retreat. I had a few ask on Sunday, "What is a retreat?" Well let me explain, a retreat is by defined by a few things and dictionary says one of them is this: a period of group withdrawal for prayer, meditation, study, or instruction under a director. So that is what we are going to do. On March 13-15th. We are headed to Panama City to get away from it all and be with each other and God. Our Theme this year is "Faith Like a Child". This weekend is going to be an opportunity to get away from home, be on the beach, build your youth group bonds, and improve your relationship with Jesus. I hope the you are planning on coming. It is going to be a great weekend. Here is some information for you:

The cost is $55 dollars per student. It is only $50 per student if you are sending multiple children.

A Non-Refundable deposit of $25 is due on March 1st. (If for some reason forget it that day, please let me know if you still plan on going). The rest of the payment will be due when we leave on Friday the 13th.

We will be leaving Gateway Church of Christ at 6:30 p.m. on the 13th, and arriving back to Gateway on Sunday by 11:30 a.m.

THINGS YOU NEED TO BRING:

Bedding – Sheets, blankets, and pillows

Bathroom items – toothpaste and toothbrush, soap, shampoo, deodorant, and your hair stuff

TOWELS – one for bathing and probably another to sit on when we go out on the beach

Clothes – Check the weather and dress/pack accordingly. You will want some clothes that you can get sandy and dirty.

TENNIS SHOES - Don’t just bring sandals or flip-flops; bring some closed toed shoes for games.

Your BIBLE

Bring an open mind and a good attitude!

It is now February, and that means....Yep, you guessed it, greeting card companies and chocolate suppliers make lots of money tricking us into thinking if we don't buy a card and gift for our loved one, that we are really not in love with them!

But it also means a few activities for Teen Gateway!

First, Remember that we has Share Group every Sunday Night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Gym.
Also, new episodes of TGTV every Wednesday night. I hope that you are enjoying these and using them as a tool to show your friends on YouTube what we do on Wednesdays.
On February 13th, I will need about 5-6 of you to volunteer to help babysit for the Young Families dinner at Church. So let me know if you want to help.
February 15th, we are going to the Veranda for Chapel. I want to know if any of you boys want to give a 5-10 minute devotional talk.
February 20th, We are going to have a MOVIE NIGHT in the Teen Room. Cost is $3 per teen (this is to cover the cost of some snacks). We will begin at 6:30 p.m. and go till 9:15 p.m. EAT DINNER BEFORE YOU COME, BECAUSE I WILL ONLY HAVE SNACKS AVAILABLE AND NOT A MEAL.
February 22, we are helping to host the hospitality meal for visitors on Sunday after church. I will let you know what you will be responsible for bringing. (We will not have Share Group this evening)

A little Further Ahead....

Our Spring Retreat is March 13-15th. The Cost is $55 per person. If you have multiple children the cost is only $50 per child.
I need to know by March 1st if you are 100% going or not with a $25 NON-REFUNDABLE Deposit. (if money is an issue with anyone, please let me know so we can work something out!)

On February 1, 2009, TEEN GATEWAY will be having its annual Super Bowl Party at the home of Scottie and Amy Ray!
Here are the details:

Gateway WILL NOT be providing transportation, you will need to provide your own rides
Plan on meeting at the Ray's at 4 p.m. and staying until the end of the game.
Boys need to bring a 2 liter drink and a bag of Chips
Girls need to bring a dessert of some kind
The Ray's Address is 1752 Bright Leaf Circle, Cantonment, FL 32533. Directions will be available Wednesday, the 28th , and on Sunday Feb. 1st

Teen Gateway members listen up!!!

In lieu of a website, which cost money, I have set up a Blog to update you on News, TGTV videos, funny thoughts, and inspiration.

I plan to update this as often as I can, so you can refer to it for upcoming events, trip details, and anything else you need to know.

Pretty cool, uh?!

So the first thing is;
This Sunday, remember that the Youth Group is going to the Veranda(nursing home) after Sunday School for the Chapel Service we hold. Here a few reminders:

Derek and Leslie will be taking you. Their authority is as good as mine. Please obey their direction and treat them with respect
3 boys will need to sing songs as usual.
1 boy will need to lead the Lord's Supper
1 boy will need to do the closing prayer
Derek may ask one of you to speak, so be ready
You should be back around 11:15-11:30, so let you parents know you will be back when Church is over or within 5-10 minutes.
Remember, be respectful and enjoy the time you get to spend with the residents there. They cherish and look forward to you coming each month.

Next, Share Group begins again this Sunday Night at 5:30 p.m.

Derek and Leslie will be filling in for this as well, so listen to them and follow their direction
Boys need to bring some Soda's and Girls need to bring cookies or a dessert of sorts!

Remember, February 1st we are planning to have our Super Bowl Party at the Ray's
